10 MILLION PEOPLE IN PAIN ACROSS THE UK
NATIONAL ROADSHOW BRINGS “STREET CONSULTATIONS” TO WHERE YOU ARE

Chronic pain is one of the most common reasons for a patient to visit a GP and one in three households in the UK have someone in pain at any one time.

To support people in pain, their carers, friends and family a national “tour” is visiting cities across the UK, providing information and on-site advice sessions with healthcare professionals.

Doctors comment that they see a lot of patients with chronic pain but it’s a complex condition to manage. It is not easily measured unlike blood pressure for example but early intervention is essential to aid recovery and prevent long-term disability.

Chronic pain has many causes, including: disease of the nervous system or injury (“neuropathic” and “nociceptive” pain), arthritis (responsible for almost 50% of chronic pain)and fractures that do not properly heal. The Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson, recently acknowledged the impact pain is having on public health in his annual report, in which pain featured as one of six key areas needing urgent intervention to improve the lives of the UK population. Patients know that identifying the type of pain they live with and being able to talk about it in a way that makes their GP and those around them understand what they are going through is a big step in beating their condition. You need to properly describe the pain you are in to get the right diagnosis and the right treatment, and this “Can you feel my pain?” educational initiative sets out to help people do this.

That is why Pfizer is supporting the Can You Feel My Pain? Roadshow

The Can You Feel My Pain? Roadshow is visiting cities across the UK, providing information and on-site advice sessions with healthcare professionals and patient groups including, BackCare, Action on Pain, Pain Concern, Trim and NRAS.
